7-25-16 Slugger of the Day

Time to get back at it with my MLB segment, Slugger of the Day. Tonight, I’m rolling with the best contact hitter in baseball, Jose Altuve. Altuve has always been scary for pitchers, but now that he is hitting for power, he has become a full blown nightmare for any pitcher whether they are an ace or not. He faces Pineda of the Yankees tonight who, yes, had a good start last game, but has been very on and off all year when it comes to putting good starts together back to back. People like to go with him for tournaments because he has double digit K potential, but if you really look into it, he gets hit around pretty often. 5.25 ERA while allowing a walk every 3 innings and over a hit per inning. Yes, Altuve is better to target against left handed pitchers, but he still hits righties very well and he has the better chance to steal you a bag as it’s harder to hold a man on when you’re back is to first on the stretch. If you look at Altuve’s game log, which is in the picture I posted, you’ll see that he is a hit machine and can get you a multi-hit performance almost with ease. Get him in there tonight at his discounted salary.

Tonight I’m feeling very good about the young phenomenon in Corey Seager. I think he’s going to have himself a night against Andrew Cashner. Mediocre righties are right up Seager’s alley and he will most likely feast. Expect Seager to get you a couple of hits tonight with possibly a homerun, because after all, he is in the homerun derby now…

There’s not much to say here. Goldschmidt is one of the best hitters in the MLB and is facing a bad lefty pitcher. He’s been putting up pretty good numbers in his recent game log and is completely underpriced. No doubt he should be hovering around 5K tonight in salary. Lock him in and expect nothing but production out of him tonight.

Betts got us a couple hits as projected but unfortunately couldn’t score. Tonight I’m going with a guy who’s always been a top player and seems to be going a little bit under the radar this year and that’s Mike Trout. I have never picked him before for the Slugger but I feel good tonight about him against Colin McHugh who really isn’t an impressive pitcher at all. Trout is 4-14 off him with homerun. Also, he’s a crazy 10-18 in his last 4 games with homeruns in his last 2 games. So what I’m saying is that he is scorching hot with a good matchup. He’s almost chalk and is worth the money tonight.

Haven’t had the time to do a slugger for a couple of days. Today I’m picking Mookie Betts who should be leading off for the Red Sox today. This game contains a big over/under of 10, where Betts should see 5 at-bats. He has a great matchup against a lefty in Martin Perez. Mookie has 7 hits in his last 4 games with multi-hit games in 3 of those 4. I expect Mookie to get another mutli-hit game for me today and a couple runs. Plug him in, even at his decently high price.
